The role will involve assessing, developing, implementing and evaluating programmes of care for patients undergoing theatre procedures, providing clinical or day to day supervisions to junior staff. You may act as mentor and assessor. You will prepare and assemble theatre instruments / equipment, may provide clinical supervision to other staff, students, assist with the management and organisation of work as required.

You will need a knowledge of a broad range of theatre procedures and instrumentation acquired through degree or diploma. A City and Guilds 752 or NVQ Level 3 in Operating Department Practice or equivalent Diploma in Higher Education in Operating Department Practice, evidence of further study and qualifications, evidence of skills development and Intermediate Life Support is needed.
You need to be registered with the Health Professions Council (HPC). 2 years plus, post qualification experience in the Theatre Department along with current (within last 6 months) evidence based practice within an area appropriate to the assignment.

A teaching & assessing qualification is desirable but not required.
